Mayo minor manager Damien Gavin knows that Galway will provide them with a stern test in this weekend's Connacht MFC quarterfinal at MacHale Park.

Gavin has been working hard with his squad over the past number of months to have them ready for this provincial clash.

And he pointed to Galway's style of play as one of their strongest assets as they prepare to face a defensive style.

"Galway play a defensive type of football which is unusual for Galway," Gavin told the Western People.

"They grind out results. They're a strong team in that they have five of last year's All-Ireland final team eligible to play in MacHale Park.

"For the last couple of seasons under Stephen Joyce they seem to be a very mobile team. Obviously they're all good footballers but they tackle hard, they're very good in the air and they're clinical up front. Of the starting six defenders they have, three of them played in last year's All-Ireland final."
