The Galway County Board confirmed today to RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta that they have received official complaints from Na Piarsaigh/Ros Muc GAA Club in Connemara in relation to comments allegedly made by a referee during a match at the weekend.

Board Secretary John Hynes confirmed that a complaint had been made by the club itself, and by one of the club officials, alleging that the referee at the match told them not to speak Irish to the team.

The alleged incident happened at the Junior A Football Championship West match between Na Piarsaigh, Ros Muc and Salthill Knocknacarra in Ros an Mhíl on Saturday.

John Hynes said the complaints would be dealt with through the official complaints system, and that they accept that it is very serious that such a thing could occur, particularly within the GAA.

The inquiry into the matter will be concluded in 10 days.
