Tragic Corofin teenager dies after swimming accident in Germany

The Irish teenager who passed away yesterday evening following a swimming accident in Germany was a talented underage footballer with the famed Corofin club in Galway.

16-year-old Jack McHugh from Corofin had been in a serious condition at a Munich hospital since last week and Munich Police confirmed yesterday evening that he had passed away.

Jack, who also played gaelic football with his school, had been swimming with two of his friends in the Würm river near to the city when he got into difficult.

A post mortem is due to take place and arrangements are being made for Jack's body to be returned home.
