Fitzgerald as hungry as ever

Kieran Fitzgerald and Martin Farragher celebrate Corofin's All Ireland Club Final win over Slaughtneil. INPHO

Corofin defender Kieran Fitzgerald has laughed off the notion that he doesn't have the same hunger these days.

The veteran defender has won an All-Ireland club SFC medal, three Connacht titles and ten Galway SFC medals during a glittering career, but he stressed to the Tuam Herald that the defeats are still raw in the memory.

"We have lost two Connacht finals and those are the ones that stick in the memory," said Fitzgerald. "It is great to have the wins, I'm sure when we are all finished we will look back at them. The losses definitely stick in your head and they were both cruel.

"Certainly we don't want to be in that position. Two years ago, we played Castlebar in Tuam. That was a big disappointment and is something that is still with us. You remember the losses more so than the victories, but we are in a good place now. We are progressing; improving game by game."
