Monaghan's Conor McManus and Jonathan Glynn of Galway have received GAA/GPA Opel Player of the Month awards for July in football and hurling, respectively.

McManus's award comes after a sensational month which saw the Clontibret sharpshooter help steer the Farney County to their second Ulster title in three years, notching 0-5 in their victory over Donegal in Clones.

Glynn meanwhile has been in outstanding form himself lately, contributing 1-2 in a brilliant forward display during Galway's rout of Cork at Semple Stadium which saw them advance to the All-Ireland semi-final. The Tribesmen take on Tipperary this Sunday at Croke Park for a place against Kilkenny in next month's All-Ireland final.

Speaking at the awards, Glynn said: "It's an honour to be recognised by your peers, so I'm thrilled to accept the GAA/GPA Opel Player of the Month Award for July.

"We were hugely disappointed after the loss to Kilkenny in the Leinster final so it was really important for us to bounce back with a big performance. We're delighted to now have a chance to stake a claim in the final but are all too aware how difficult the challenge will be against the Munster champions on Sunday."

Disappointed from Monaghan's quarter-final defeat to Tyrone on Saturday, McManus said he was still honoured to receive the gong:

"I'd like to thank Opel, the GAA and the GPA for honoring me with this award, and I accept it with great pride on behalf of my teammates. We're extremely disappointed that our campaign ended last Saturday after an excellent provincial championship. However, we will go back at it again next season and hope to build on the progress made in the county over the past number of years."
