On July 16th, 2009, a John Mullane point completed a remarkable second-half comeback as Waterford claimed the All-Ireland SHC quarter-final spoils against Galway in Semple Stadium.

The Tribesmen appeared to have one foot in the semi-final when leading by six points with 13 minutes to play but, in one last throw of the dice, Deise boss Davy Fitzgerald sent the Shanahan brothers, Dan and Maurice, and Shane Walsh into the fray.

In a drama-packed finish, Dan Shanahan plucked a high ball and passed to the right for Walsh to bat right-handed past Colm Callanan and into the back of the Galway net.

Eoin Kelly's free levelled the contest on 70 minutes and, moments later, Mullane scored his only point in injury-time to earn a famous win for the Deise.

Joe Canning scored nine points for the John McIntyre coached Galway but, crucially, was off target with a last gasp effort that would have forced extra-time.

Waterford's reward was a penultimate round clash with Kilkenny but they lost out to the Cats on a scoreline of 2-23 to 3-15.
