Daithi Regan has claimed that Joe Canning was booked during Galway's recent Leinster SHC quarter-final replay against Dublin for 'sledging'.

Canning and Dublin goalkeeper Alan Nolan were issued with yellow cards by referee Brian Gavin after they tangled just after the Portumna man scored Galway's fourth goal. Canning appeared to be hard done by but, according to former Offaly star Regan, he was booked for verbally abusing his opponent.

Speaking on Newstalk's Off The Ball last night, Regan said: "Interestingly, Brian Gavin mentioned to me after the Galway-Dublin game when he booked Joe Canning, he said, 'no-one knows why I booked Joe Canning. It wasn't for throwing the goalkeeper to the ground. It was for sledging."

Looks like 'sledging's isn't just a football problem anymore…
