Mayo 1-12

Galway 0-13

Andrew Farrell's 18th minute goal proved all-important as Mayo edged out neighbours Galway at Carrick-on-Shannon to be crowned Connacht junior football champions.

Galway looked the most likely winners when scores from Peter Cooke, Matthew Redington and Paul Whelehan helped them to a 0-6 to 0-2 lead before Farrell's strike levelled it. Points from Darren McHugh and Damien McGing put the winners ahead before a fine Enda Tierney solo effort ensured the Tribesmen of parity, 0-9 to 1-6, at the break.

Tierney kicked two more points on the restart to put Galway back in the driving seat, but Mayo wrestled back control again through efforts from Conor Horan, Farrell and McGing as Whelehan's late point wasn't enough to save the maroon and whites.
