Referee Fergal Horgan's decision to disallow what would have been an equalising goal for Galway in Salthill today was described as 'brave' by Cork manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy.

The Tribesmen looked to have earned a share of the spoils when the sliotar ended up in the back of the Cork net courtesy of Jason Flynn right at the death but the Tipperary official ruled it out for a square ball infringement.

"It was brave decision by the referee to give a square ball at this venue," JMB remarked to The Irish Times.

"The home crowd were baying for blood. I thought it was a very good game. Both sides had a lot going for them. A lot of good scores in it and it could have gone either way to be honest."

His Galway counterpart Anthony Cunningham said: We struck the net but it was deemed to be in the square. It was probably hard to call, really, from any angle."
