Corofin's Gary Delaney admits that his team mates helped put his penalty miss out of his head very quickly.

At a crucial stage in the first half of last Saturday's All-Ireland club SFC semi-final, Corofin were awarded a penalty, which the 33-year-old veteran stood up to take.

His effort sent the keeper the wrong way, but unfortunately for Delaney, the shot came off the crossbar. The situation got even worse as the ball was then worked up their field and St Vincent's were awarded a penalty of their own, which Mossy Quinn converted.

Delaney could be forgiven for letting his head drop after that but he explained to the Connacht Tribune that words of encouragement from his team mates helped him.

"I suppose it did set me back for a minute or two, but after that, all I heard were words of encouragement from at least five or six players that were close to me," said Delaney.

"That's what makes a huge difference and it's what Corofin is all about. We have a huge togetherness in the team, we all support each other and that really is everything, especially when things go wrong."
