Michael Meehan says it is "unlikely" that he will ever play for Galway again.

The 29-year-old attacker stepped away from the intercounty panel last year due to long-term ankle problems but never actually announced his retirement. Amid speculation that he could be enticed back by new manager Kevin Walsh, the Caltra clubman hints that his Galway days are probably over:

"I stepped away last year because I had no option. Can I go back? I'd love to. But it's unlikely. I'd love to get back and do something, start off and play as much as I can, if I can.

"I spoke to him [Walsh] a few times but there's no pressure coming from anywhere.

"I just needed a break from it last year, it was all consuming for four years. It gets difficult when 90% of the time, you're in the gym.

"It was a relief at the time just to step away. It was a hard thing to do but a relief. The enjoyment, there was none."
