Clare selector Michael Browne wasn't making an issue over claims that Galway changed sliotars before Jason Flynn scored his winning free at Pearse Stadium.

While there is no rule to stop teams from switching sliotars as long as they are approved by the GAA, it appeared to be a bone of contention on the sideline at the time. However, in playing down the heated exchanges between members of both backroom teams, Browne quipped: "Sure if that was us wouldn't we try and do the same thing, so let's call a spade a spade.

"That's not our place to argue about that. Where I was sitting I didn't think it was a free, but I'm a Clare man and surely I wasn't going to think it was a free anyway.

"I'd have to pay tribute to the free-taker. He was under enormous pressure in a very difficult position and he put it straight over the black spot."

Galway manager Anthony Cunningham also insisted there was no bad blood over the late incident over the sliotars.

"I couldn't tell you about the ball to be honest. In the overall flow of things, it was a free and that's the way it goes," he said.

"There was nothing. I went over to shake hands (at full-time) and said we will see you one of these days. There was no comment from Davy (Fitzgerald) or from anyone."
