Man of the match Aidan Harte was delighted with the spirit Gort showed in dethroning Galway and All-Ireland champions Portumna.
The green and golds responded to the concession of a late Kevin Hayes goal with two of their own from Wayne Walsh and Albert Mullins to claim the Tom Callanan Cup for the first time since 2011 at Kenny Park yesterday.
"We weren't happy when they got the goal, but we have one thing, we have belief," county star Harte enthused in the Irish Daily Star.
"We weren't going to allow anything to break our spirit. We have spoken over the last few weeks about not letting ourselves get tired and we are happy to win another county title.
"Hard work was the key because we just kept going and going. The final of the championship obviously ran on later than we expected it to be.
"If the match had been played Christmas morning, the teams and supporters would be here so it didn't matter hugely. Portumna are a fantastic team, nobody can ever take away what they have done for Galway hurling.
"They are absolute kingpins, we were just delighted to get over the line."
Portumna manager Michael Monaghan refused to blame his side's nine-week break since the semi-final win over Craughwell for the defeat.
"Before the game, we didn't know our form, we didn't know how we were going. It's no fault of our lads, but it's hard on them. But the better team won on the day, they adapted better to the conditions," he said.
