Saturday's All-Ireland Masters (Over 40s) football final between Galway and Mayo will go ahead without the blessing of Croke Park.

The local derby clash, which takes place in Clonberne at 3.30pm and will be shown live on Irish TV, will feature many players who have graced the senior stage for both counties. Galway are seeking their third title on the trot, while Mayo are going in search of their first since 2009.

It will be preceded by the Shield final between Cavan and Tyrone at 2pm.

However, the competition hasn't been recognised by the GAA for a number of years and therefore isn't covered by the GAA insurance or the GAA player injury scheme.

But this hasn't deterred the efforts of the Gaelic Masters Assocation who are looking forward to two competitive deciders on Saturday.

"This will showcase the phenomenal interest and passion that Gaelic players still have in playing our native games despite their age," Gaelic Masters Association chairman James Breslin is quoted in the Irish Times.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the effort and work of the Gaelic Masters Association and to encourage more counties to get involved with the competition."
