Corofin v St Michaels is being billed as the unbeatables against an underdog city side in their first ever senior final. John Mulholland has kept Corofin as short priced favourites since the start of the year. The biggest odds at any point this year Corofin were was 11/10 and now they go into the final at 1/12. Mulhollands report plenty of money coming on St Michaels on the handicap of +10@5/6 but does any punters out there genuinely believe they can really win at 8/1?
As upsets go this would have to go down as one of the greatest in GAA history. It's been well documented about how colossal the upset of Dublin by Donegal in the All Ireland semi-final was but in truth this would be even greater and the odds reflect this. Donegal were 7/1 whilst St Michaels are 8/1. Only a small bit bigger but when you factor in St Michaels have a seven day turn around for this county final and are missing key personal, the chances of them beating Corofin are diminished. Corofin won their last match against their closest rivals Milltown by twenty six points and won last year's county final over Salthill by twelve. Mulhollands have set them a target of -10 so in betting parlance this means if you backed Corofin at -10 at even money you would double your money is Corofin win by eleven points or more. No easy task but the supposed gulf in class between Corofin and the rest means bookies need to set such huge lines.
