Galway county board has promised to reimburse spectators who literally had their bums reddened during last weekend's county SFC semi-finals at Tuam Stadium.

The Connacht Tribune reported this week that about 25 spectators left the ground with red paint on their attire after sitting on wooden seats that had been freshly painted, but which hadn't fully dried.

It later transpired that the paint used was oil-based rather than water-based, which takes much longer to dry. Needless to say, the affected punters were far from impressed and are to be compensated by the county board.

The incident, which has become known as 'Paintgate', happened during the semi-finals which saw Frank Fox Cup holders Corofin cruise to victory over Milltown, and Barna and St. Michael's finish level.
