Turloughmore seek DRA hearing

October 10, 2014

Turloughmore are to bring their appeal against the decision to eject them from the Galway SHC to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA).

The club was thrown out of the senior hurling championship last week for fielding an ineligible player in their group match against Beagh on September 14.

The sensational development came after a meeting of the Galway CCC found that the club had fielded a player - Matthew Keating - who had apparently not received clearance to play after returning from the US where he had played hurling for the summer.

The Connacht Council yesterday upheld the Galway CCC's decision, prompting Turloughmore to seek a DRA hearing in a bid to be reinstated. The Galway SHC quarter-final between Beagh and Ardhahan - which is scheduled for Sunday - is expected to be postponed until after the hearing.

A statement from Turloughmore read: "Following a decision by the Connacht Council to uphold the sanction imposed on Turloughmore Hurling Club by the Galway CCCC, Turloughmore Hurling Club have lodged an appeal to the Disputes Resolution Authority. Turloughmore Hurling Club would like to thank various clubs in County Galway for their support."
