Kevin Walsh will be ratified as Galway's new football manager at a county board meeting on Monday night.

The former two-time All-Ireland winning midfielder and Sligo manager will succeed Alan Mulholland, who resigned in the wake of the Tribesmen's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final loss to Kerry nearly two months ago. The way was cleared for the Killanin man's appointment after former selector Pete Warren withdrew his candidacy last week.

Walsh's selectors will be Corofin's Brian Silke, who is a brother of 1998 All-Ireland winning captain Ray, and Sean Conlon, who is currently part of ex-Mayo midfielder Pat Fallon's management team in Barna.

Like his hurling counterpart Anthony Cunningham, Walsh will be handed a three-year term, subject to an annual review.
