Galway's Shane Walsh hopes to secure a historic first win at Croke Park this weekend.

Sunday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Munster champions Kerry will be Walsh's fourth competitive appearance at GAA HQ. In 2011, he was on the St Jarlath's side beaten in the Hogan Cup final as well as the Galway team edged out by Dublin in an All-Ireland MFC semi-final.

Last year, he made his senior debut at Croker in the Round Four Qualifier defeat to Cork.

"I've played there a few times but I've yet to win," the Kilkerrin/Clonberne clubman confirms in The Irish Daily Star. "Hopefully now I'll be correcting that on Sunday.

"I watched the highlights of their game against Clare and I watched the Munster final. Maybe Cork were poor but Kerry were very good that day as well.

"They have some serious forwards. We'll have to tighten up at the back because we conceded a lot at the end there [against Tipperary].

"We let runners go. I suppose it's easy for the backs to take flak but everyone has to work as a team. The scores came as a team and we have to defend as a team. We'll be looking to do that the next day.

"Kerry have looked impressive. We know what level they are at and we need to match that level the next day."
