There is a big question mark hanging over Anthony Cunningham's future as Galway senior hurling manager after clubs decided to seek nominations for the position.

The qualifier defeat at the hands of Tipperary brought the curtain down on Cunningham's three-year term and club delegates have decided to seek nominations for the job by August 5th.

The successful candidate will be given a two-year term and will be in place by the end of August or into September.

"Ultimately, it is the clubs in Galway who decide who the manager will be," Galway hurling committee chairman Joe Byrne explained to the Irish Independent.

"The process is that when a manager's term ends, nominations are then sought for the new term.

"It is up to the clubs to make nominations, interviews will be held and after the hurling committee makes a decision it will then be forwarded to the county committee and ultimately, then, the clubs will make the decision on who the manager will be."
