HS hurling team of the week

March 31, 2014

The hoganstand.com hurling team of the week.
There was plenty at stake in this weekend's Allianz hurling leagues, we pick the players who impressed us most.

1. Gary Maguire (Dublin)

Pulled off a great save from Kevin Moran as Waterford tried in vein to claw their way back into contention in Walsh Park.

2. Shane Durkin (Dublin)

Restricted his direct opponent Ray Barry to a single point before the Waterford corner-forward was withdrawn in the 64th minute.

3. Conor McKinley (Antrim)

The Saffrons full-back proved to be the rock on which a number of Offaly attacks perished in the HL Division 1B relegation play-off at Ballycastle.

4. Daithi Burke (Galway)

Lined out alongside his brother Ronan in the Galway full-back line and the pair were impressive in the Tribesmen's eight-point success over Limerick.

5. Brendan Maher (Tipperary)

The Premier captain spoke out about the high expectations amongst the county's supporters last week and they gave them something to cheer about against Munster rivals Cork.

6. Conor Ryan (Clare)

The All-Ireland champions were below-par against Laois with the notable exception of Ryan who was stood out at number six.

7. Paul Shiels (Antrim)

With their Division 1B status on the line, Shiels was one of the driving forces behind the Saffrons vital victory over Offaly.

8. Richie Hogan (Kilkenny)

Hogan was instrumental in putting the Cats on a forward footing against Wexford as he gave them a solid foundation around the middle third of the field.

9. Padraig Brehony (Galway)

Brehony put his name to two points against Limerick but it was his overall work-rate that really caught the eye against the Shannonsiders.

10. John O'Dwyer (Tipperary)

The undisputed 'man-of-the-match' in Semple stadium, O'Dwyer pick-pocketed Cork for 1-7 from general play.

11. Colin Ryan (Clare)

Ryan's accuracey from placed balls helped the Banner County over the line against Laois; the centre-forward put his name to 10 points, eight of which came from frees.

12. TJ Reid (Kilkenny)

Reid continued his rich vein of form with a eye-catching 3-8 against the Model County.

13. Pauric Mahony (Waterford)

No fault for Waterford's relegation to Division 1B can be placed at the door of Mahony who accumulated 0-11, three from play, against Anthony Daly's Dublin.

14. Danny Sutcliffe (Dublin)

A brace of goals from Sutcliffe sent the Leinster champions on the road to safety from the drop to Division 1B.

15. Shane O'Donnell (Clare)

A goal in either half from the All-Ireland final hero helped save Clare's blushes against the O'Moore County.
