Big weekend for Galway GAA
March 27, 2014
Good odds.
Its another big weekend for Galway GAA with the Intercounty panels facing crucial games in the National league against Armagh in the Division 2 and in the quarter finals of the hurling against Limerick. John Mulholland rates both matches as practically coin tosses with both sides rated at 4/5 and even money to prevail. The Galway double is available at 11/4 in Mulholland betting shops this weekend but current owner Alan Mulholland will be more bothered about his own footballers who know that defeat will mean they will need to go to Monaghan on the final day and win and hope results go their way.
Galway defeated Armagh in the qualifiers last season but Paul Grimley's Armagh form this season includes an away win to Meath and a home win to Laois. They lost in a very unlucky fashion in a monsoon to Down so only once this season against Monaghan have they looked outclassed. Last season's third round qualifier defeat will be in their mindset so Galway cannot afford to give a side of this attacking quality any rope. Betting wise Galway are now 10/11 to be relegated and 10/11 to stay up. On three points, a win here coupled with wins for Donegal and Monahan against Louth and Laois respectively will put Galway in the driving seat come the crucial final weekend. Remember it goes to head to head if two teams are on same points so victory could propel Galway to 4th or 5th. After three opening defeats, that would be nosebleed territory for the boys.
The hurlers lost home field advantage in the draw and are currently sweating on the fitness of Joe Canning. If it is confirmed he'll start expect the odds of even money to cone under threat
