Moycullen hurling loses one of its life-long servants

The death of Michael O'Malley of Cloughane, Moycullen, at UHG, saw the area lose another well-known and lifelong resident. The deceased who was in his seventies was hugely associated with hurling in the parish and was a key member of a moycullen side during a golden era for the club in the fifties and sixties.

Michael was a familiar figure in the half-forward line, donning the number 12 jersey on many occasions. That jersey was draped on his coffin at his removal.
He was also involved in administration at the club, as well as at West Board and county level.

Michael, who was a skilled tradesman, was also actively involved in community affairs and loved the traditional way of life, with a particular interest in Irish music and culture.

He will be remembered in many areas and his passing has left a great void in the community.

Reposing of his remains took place at Aiseiri Funeral Room before removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Moycullen last week; burial followed Requiem Mass on Friday morning.
