Tierney, Fr Peter

June 25, 2009
Galway football is this week mourning the death of Fr Peter Tierney, a native of Milltown, who won a County SFC medal with Dunmore MacHales in 1953, at a time when Milltown weren't playing in the senior grade. An older brother of the All Ireland Three-in-a-row hero Noel Tierney, Fr Peter was regarded in the early to mid-1950s as the outstanding midfielder in Galway, prior to Frank Evers and Mattie McDonagh forming their legendary partnership in the victorious 1956 All-Ireland winning Galway team.
