Earls, Bill

August 08, 2008
The Late Bill Earls It was with great sadness that we heard of the death of Bill Earls, Forest Views, Woodlawn, who passed to his eternal reward. Bill, who had a strong love of sport, particularly racing and hurling, went on his annual trek to the Galway races for an unbroken 68 years. In that time he only missed one day in Ballybrit-and that was because of a family wedding. He had a great love of the horses racing and was a respected judge of form. Bill was a founding member of St Killian's hurling club, captaining them to an East Board title in 1950. And as that club became Sarsfields, it was with great pride that he watched his son capture five county medals and two All-Ireland club titles during Sarsfield' golden period, while his other son Noel was also involved. Bill, an honourary Vice President of the Sarsfield club, was 83 last friday week and managed to watch the Galway Plate On Wednesday. It was fitting that he departed this world during the Race Week. He is survived by his wife Teresa,Better known as Monsie, Gerry, Maureen, Eileen, Pauline, Willie, Sean, the late Noreen, Phyllis, Joan, Caroline, Fidelma, Noel and Regina, his extended family and large circle of friends. Ballybrit Won't be the same again without the gentleman that was Bill Earls. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of the Connacht Tribute 8th August, 2008
