The death took place in Boston, USA, at the weekend of Johnny Geraghty, a native of Mackney, Ballinasloe.
The eldest son of the late Patrick and Annie Geraghty, Johnny emigrated to Boston over fifty years ago but for the past forty years returned to his native town to attend the famous October Fair.
It was ironic that his passing occurred on the opening day of this year's event.
Johnny was an accomplished footballer, playing with Brackernagh and Ballinasloe town in the fifties before emigrating to Boston, where again he gave service to many teams.
As a mark of respect, a minute's silence was observed as the County under 16 football final in Spiddal Saturday last, which Ballinasloe won.
The late Mr Geraghty, who was 73, is survived by his wife Susan, sons and daughters, sister Ena and brother of the late George, aunt Chrissie, nephews, nieces, cousins and many more relatives and friends. The funeral took place in boston.
