Wexford full back Liam Ryan is set to miss the upcoming club championship campaign through injury.

Ryan suffered a broken bone in his foot and could also potentially miss Wexford's Leinster SHC semi-final against Galway on Halloween Bank Holiday weekend.

The news comes as a huge blow for Rapparees in their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Wexford SHC. The Rapps are scheduled to face Shelmaliers in the Group D opener at Chadwicks Wexford Park on Saturday week.

Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald will be hoping that Ryan's foot injury will not keep him out of action for too long.

The 24-year-old was one of the leading lights in the Model County's memorable 2019 season which saw them win their first provincial title in 15 years.
