Galway are odds on to open their HL 1 campaign with a win over Westmeath, but their manager Shane O’Neill is taking nothing for granted ahead of the clash at Pearse Stadium.

The newly revamped division one sees two groups of counties battle it out for honours and Westmeath have been placed in a tough group.

They face Galway this weekend and their manager told the Westmeath Examiner that they will be putting out the strongest team available to face the Midlanders.

“The guys who will be picked to play Westmeath are players who deserve to play it. There’s no element of trying guys out for the sake of it or anything,” said O’Neill.

“There will be no disrespect shown to Westmeath whatsoever. It’s the first division of the National League and it will be getting the respect it deserves and we’ll be playing the strongest 15 that we feel will be the strongest 15 on Sunday.”
