IT Carlow 1-16

GMIT 1-13

DJ Carey's IT Carlow made it two wins from as many outings in the Fitzgibbon Cup this evening when beating GMIT on home turf.

The Carlow students opened the campaign with an impressive 3-20 to 2-16 success away to UCD five days ago, but they weren't as convincing as many people would have expected on this occasion.

Making their return to the competition, the 2019 Ryan Cup winners trailed the hosts by 1-10 to 1-5 at the break as Wexford star Cathal Dunbar (IT Carlow) and Galway's Enda Egan (GMIT) traded goals in the first half.

GMIT fought back in the second period and outscored their opponents 0-4 to 0-1 in the third quarter before making it a one point game with five minutes of normal time remaining. However, Carey's charges stood firm to hold on for a hard-earned victory.
