Galway SFC final replay: Corofin in seventh heaven

November 03, 2019

Corofin captain Micheál Lundy and Jason Leonard celebrate with the Frank Fox Cup

Corofin 0-11

Tuam Stars 0-8

Corofin made it a remarkable seven Galway senior football championship titles on the bounce this afternoon after seeing off Tuam Stars at the second attempt at St Jarlath’s Park.

The reigning All-Ireland champions came from a point behind at half-time to storm to victory as Gary Sice, Ronan Steede and Kieran Molloy came up with big points at the finish.

Kevin O’Brien’s men had made the better start to this replay but were left to rue six wides by the end of the first-half as a more efficient Tuam side went in leading by 0-5 to 0-4.

Jamie Murphy and Brian Mannion had been the chief score-getters for the Stars but their supply became less steady after the restart, with the holders hitting the front after Jason Leonard and Sice had twice levelled in the third quarter.

Sice shot the victors back into the lead with 11 minutes left on the clock and when Steede launched over another the writing seemed to be on the wall.

Tuam struggled to halt the momentum from their opponents and they’d eventually succumb to them after Martin Farragher and Molloy raised white flags to seal the seven-in-a-row triumph.
