Padraig Joyce is set to become Galway’s new senior football manager.

Joyce, who is considered to be one of the county’s greatest ever players, will succeed Kevin Walsh in the job following the ex-midfielder’s decision to step down after five years in charge of the Tribesmen.

A two-time All-Ireland winner, Joyce managed Galway’s U20s to Connacht glory this past season and has beaten off competition from ex-Tipperary boss Liam Kearns to be recommended for the role.

"Following interviews for the position of Galway senior football manager, the interview committee will be recommending Padraic Joyce and his selectors John Divilly, Michéal Ó Domhnaill and John Concannon for ratification to the management and county committee at their meeting next week," Galway GAA said in a statement.
