Davy Fitzgerald is staying on as manager of the Wexford senior hurlers.

Wexford GAA confirmed this evening that the Clare native has been reappointed on a two-year term.

There was much speculation surrounding Fitzgerald's future in recent weeks with reports that he was set to fill the Galway senior hurling manager's role vacated by Micheal Donoghue. However, speaking to Mid West Radio yesterday, the 48-year-old clarified the situation, saying he hasn’t had contact with anyone from Galway County Board and that he was "torn" over continuing the long commute from his Sixmilebridge home to the Model County.

In his third year at the helm, Fitzgerald guided Wexford to their first Leinster SHC title in 15 years before narrowly losing to eventual All-Ireland champions Tipperary.
