St. Thomas' Conor Cooney punches the air after scoring a goal against Liam Mellows

Goals from Darragh Burke and Conor Cooney sowed the seeds for St Thomas’ victory over Liam Mellows in today’s Galway SHC decider at Pearse Stadium.

The Kevin Lally managed outfit relieved their city opponents of the Tom Callanan Cup on a scoreline of 2-13 to 0-10.

Burke’s goal arrived in the 15th minute and they enjoyed the luxury of a 1-10 to 0-6 cushion at the change of ends.

Captain Cooney put the issue beyond any doubt when raising his team’s second green flag at the end of the third quarter.

That left the scoreboard reading 2-13 to 0-8 in his side’s favour and there was no way back for the holders.

Clarinbridge, meanwhile, took Galway MHC honours thanks to a 0-17 to 1-6 success over Castlegar in the curtain-raiser.
