The Galway senior hurling championship semi-finals finally take place this weekend as both games form part of an attractive double header at Kenny Park, Athenry.

An appeal by the Turloughmore club had the SHC on hold following the group stages, but that situation has been resolved and all the talk now is about what is happening on the field.

Three of the four teams in this year's semi-finals have not tasted a championship win for some time, with Gort being the most recent winners in 2014.

That sees them as favourites to lift this year's title, but they face a rejuvenated Craughwell side that will be eager to advance to the final and with Niall Healy in excellent form, they have a great chance. Throw in at 2.30pm.

Proceeding this game is the meeting of Cappataggle and Liam Mellows (12.45pm) and the former have certainly been the surprise packets of the campaign.

This could well be a very close game, but Cappataggle have the likes of James Skehill, Damien Joyce and Stephen Creaven in their ranks and they might just shade this one.
