(Oldest Posts First)

on saturday limerick beat london in the nfl on an artificial pitch

is this the first time ever a league game either hurling or football was been on an artificial pitch
has any other gaa inter county game been on a artificial pitch - possibly preseason comps - i remember back in 80s some games being played in the skydome in toronto

Did they charge an entry fee Janesboro? Curious, as I don't know how they'd go about stopping people walking!

Pretty sure Gaelic Park in NY has a synthetic surface these days, used to be a grass surface though.

Yes, Gaelic Park is not a grass surface, so artificial surface first used in the 'old new world' since NY included in Connacht Championship I'd say.

I'd say they didn't as it was a late switch, It was suppose to be a double header in the Gaelic grounds but was moved.
However the hurling ( also a meaningless league match ) went ahead in the Gaelic grounds.

Shows watch Limerick GAA think of football when they put a league match on an artificial pitch.

It's the same story with the Tipp footballers...surprised that wasn't moved to a carpark somewhere....

county man to be fair and im only speculating here
there was pitch inspection on sat morning - if hurling couldnt go ahead all they had to do was ring the offaly lads and tell them not to travel , or say games is somewhere else as the football was v london who would have had to travel the night before they needed to ensure game was on hence move it to all weather pitch

Maybe but I don't think so Janesboro. They knew the Gaelic Grounds was definitely playable for 1 match anyways. There was never any danger of the hurling being called off.

The football was moved on Friday, they could have played the football on Saturday in the Gaelic Grounds if they wanted to make sure London didn't have to stay overnight and moved the hurling to Sunday if needed.

In fairness the facilities in UL are decent but only for training. It is not good enough to play a Senior inter county league match.
