Over 75s All Ireland Championship

I think this would be a good way to get all the older people who are alone to go out and have a bit of fun. Why can't our older people show there grand children how to play the game.

Now i know an hour game might be too long for the older children so maybe cut 10 minutes off the game and 25 minutes each half.

And maybe not play the full size pitch but maybe put the small goals on both 20 yard lines.

If not a competition then i think maybe have it a half time exhibition during tje Senior games.

You think this could take off??

You wouldn't be worrying so much about injuries as the season progressed, more so deaths :D

The games could be sponsored by undertakers, how many ambulances would you .need at the games, 30 or more, St Vincents nursing home v St Paul's would transfers be allowed, if you were a good player you might get into a nursing home cheaper, like college.

Brillant idea but they should not leave out the Camogie players also i think anyone that has a pension should be allowed play and in all fairness health wise i would be more worried about the new generation of Mc Donalds eaters going forward with their cans of cokes .

If the All-Ireland Masters can't get insured then there's no chance this will ever go ahead.

The GAA should develop some sort of social format for Gaelic games though, a bit like five-a-side soccer or sevens rugby. I know we already have sevens football and hurling, but that takes a serious fitness base to play on a full-sized pitch.

Despite the All Priests 5 A-Side element this is a good shout. Over 75's might be pushing it a bit though.

We always hear about the GAA being at the heart and soul of a community but to be honest very little is done to promote the games to groups like the elderly, ethnic minorities or physically disabled. I know wheelchair hurling has grown over the last few years but other than that I'm not aware of any sort of GAA games available to physically or intellectually disabled people.

You only have to look at the massive success that Gaelic for Mothers is to see what can be done with a bit of out of the box thinking in tailoring games to different groups of people that may not have played before. Even a couple of colleges play against each other with teams made up solely of foreign students who've never played before.

Walking football has become massive in the UK over the last 2-3 years and there's about 900 clubs playing regularly - there's national championships for over 50's and 60's teams as well.

Half pitches, indoor halls, 7 a-side - there's plenty of scope to look at different variations at least.

If this was going to be trialled anywhere I'd imagine it would be done with one of the more progressive Sports Partnerships - probably one of the Dublin ones (Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown) or Meath along with a local GAA club or school.

Could make for a very interesting topic for anybody studying a sport / leisure course and looking for a final year project / dissertation.

I don't want to offend anyone but is this the only way rebelfan that Cork will win an All Ireland title in the next few years, ah only joking, might be the only way my own county will win one. Over 75s, Health and safety would have a field day, would be no need for an ambulance to be at the game, all you would want is a few undertakers, it would be funny though to see a ref calling a player aside and the player trying to argue with the ref that he or she is over 75m. 'I remember the year of the big snow, I was 10 years old at the time' ref then would ask what year was the big snow? Player would reply 1947, ref ya go own and remember I'm watching you.

I assume you mean tag rugby not sevens rugby as 7s requires huge levels of fitness and skill levels need to be very high.

Only a completely ridiculous situation would involve the use of joke arms and a remote control wheelchair..........
