Sledging

Is this sledging I see before me? Were the big bad men from Ulster playing here? Was it two ulster teams playing each other? Was Mickey Harte and the Tyrone management team actively encouraging players to target the goalkeeper and goad him?

The answer to all the above questions is NO!

Now I am starting to wonder if the farmers in Wexford are using ulster fertiliser for their strawberries. It's the only thing that could explain this behaviour.

Just for the record I don't care about sledging, it's common practice in every sport. You do what you do to give yourself an advantage. There is a line you don't cross, anyone with any sort of conscience knows what the line is. I am just creating this thread to showcase that it's not just Ulster where this exists.

Leaving the Ulster thing out of it, this is a good video. I like how the defenders protected their keeper as he went forward and also how he answered the jeers with 2 well taken scores.

Horrible behaviour at the same time, though -not in the spirit of the game. Some consistent, severe sanctions, from referees would stamp this out fairly quickly.

I know but there are still numerous posters that think it's an ulster thing etc. I'm just pointing out that it's not and it's common practice in every sport, everywhere.

Yeah fair play to his team mates and they were two great scores while under serious pressure and jeering. Best way to answer it.

Spillane picked a novel 15 in the Sunday World yesterday. An outfit comprising the 15 dirtiest players he ever came up against. Of course, it was couched in the usual 'manly' stuff language etc.

Saw that myself, I had a bit of a chuckle to myself.

I know these are young lads but don't think that would be allowed happen in any other sport.
So much for clamping down on sledging.

would the referee not be entitled to issue black cards to anyone who body-checks or obstructs a keeper coming up to take a free. The reason why these things get out of hand is that the officials are too lenient. imagine this happening in soccer, it just wouldn't happen.

Sledging is around are yonks - just because we have a silly name for it now.

Wearn't the bauld Sylvie Linnane and Lynsky at it with the Galway hurlers in the 80's and they didn't pick it up off the street

You obviously don't remember the outcry after the Tyrone Donegal game on here. Joe Duffy and Mrs Lovejoy wouldn't have got a look in with the 'wont someone think of the children' crap that was being spewed on here
