County managers and their vice like grip on players

(Oldest Posts First)

With all the debates and proposals over club fixtures, surely the answer to all this is more basic and simple, put and end to the vice like grip intercounty managers have on the players, players have to be available to their clubs say one night a week, maybe a few weeks brake from intercounty games in june to let club games go ahead?
This county training is becoming a farse now, its common now for county teams to train 4/6 nights a week in NOVEMBER!!!!! a farce and a joke
Co managers do not own the players, where will this end? As managers push more and more to get an edge how far will they be let go?

It's also counter productive. Players won't commit to such strict training regimes and a number of county teams are already losing some of their best players.

Players have there own voices and minds. If they don't like the county set up walk or discuss with the manager and go back to your club. maybe these lads love training in the county set up as maybe there club set up is farcical and they get nothing from it. We don't know how many county lads are with clubs who might have 8 lads turning up to training.

Theres swings and roundabouts to this argument

It's crazy that these boys have a guns pointed at their heads.

Look the easy way to solve this is for the clubs to play on minus their county players. How many clubs would not get 15 out without their county players??

The only way that clubs will be granted reasonable access to their county players is if the GAA introduces and strictly enforces appropriate rules that require ALL counties to do this. If it is left up to individual county boards to do their own thing, nothing will change because they will be too worried about upsetting the county team management and subsequently getting the blame if the county team does not succeed.
