Should the GAA consider setting up a radio station

(Oldest Posts First)

I was thinking about marketing the GAA. And would a Radio station dedicated to GAA news help? A lot of commercial radio stations don't usually have any GAA results or news from September onwards, and it is usually only March or so before it gets any publicity. Should some of the money earned by HQ be put into a "Radio GAA"?

What kind of radio station? What license would you get for the station?
Who funds this? A national station costs a lot of money and is there any real demand for a GAA only station.

would be better off have a tv station set up and funding county boards to cover the matches in each county Armagh have a good online tv service set up and it works very well

A few counties have this alright but Armagh's is the best by a mile. They even show McKenna cup games live on it.

Couldnt see anything like this taking off.
people would be sick to the gills of GAA with a dedicated radio station or tv channel.
It would be like Sky Sports News regurgitating the same news every 30 minutes.

I think it would be a mighty idea if it was 15 years ago! People can stream some club games on there phones now these days so it will only go more towards that line of thinking.

Not sure it would take off now to be honest or if theres a market with how technology has changed.

There is a lot of GAA info out there now readily available.

My companions when im out running or cycling are the podcasts Newstalk GAA show, Second Captains, Sports Joe GAA show, The throw in, The Jones Road podcast.

Even a podcast called an Irishman abroad has some great interviews with the likes of Oisin Mc Conville amongst others whilst i remember listening to a documentary on the RTE documentary podcast about the All Ireland behind barbed wire which was intrigiung

I rarely listen to the radio outside of the car as the interviews and info end up on the podcasts anyway.

An official GAA podcast might be interesting, relatively cheap and would be quite popular i reckon.

No. But a twice weekly newspaper like Midi Olympic would run. And make money. Friday for.previews etc and Monday for all the match round ups.

I think there is scope for a GAA podcast. Reason I am saying is very very few, none, really national radio stations have any GAA news.
