MOTM on losing side in All-Ireland Football final

(Oldest Posts First)

Who was the last footballer to win the Man of the Match award, despite finishing on the losing side in the All-Ireland Senior Football final?

I know that when Offaly defeated Galway in the 1971 All-Ireland SFC Final, Galway goalkeeper, P.J. Smyth was Man of the Match.

Peter the Great in 1995. Scored 11 points and lost.

Paul Curran was the official MOTM that day, though it's hard to argue against Canavan deserving the title. I guess in these days of TV showmanship and after match galas, it nearly has to go to a member of the winning team, irrespective of whether he was the outstanding performer or not.

Has to be Peter Canaan in 1995. Cheated out of his all ireland medal. Scored 11 pts and set up the equalising point which was ruled out.
