Great Club Victories 30th October

(Oldest Posts First)

Some notable wins for club teams in their own county and provincial championship.

Castleknock of Dublin making a first SFC Dublin final. Belcoo beating Glenswilly well. Sean O'Mahony's, Louth, first time SFC beating Baltinglass by a point in Aughrim. Longford county champions for the first time in 66 years St Columba's Mullinalaghta beating Stradbally of Laois. And last but not least Ballyea making their hurling breakthrough in Clare.

Unlike the county championships plenty of surprises and new faces. And to cap it all off the weather, a wonderful almost summer like day for the last Sunday in October.

Indeed, siminstown first time winners. Fantastic result for what people would generally regard as the poor relation of the navan clubs. Well done to them hard luck to don/ash but better team won.

Good win for Thurles yesterday against a strong Ballygunner. The two Mahers,Ronan and Pauraic, were immense but the forwards will need to improve if they are to win the All Ireland.Lar was very poor.Hard to believe,in all my time watching hurling and attending many club finals on St Patricks day,i have yet to see a Tipp club in action.

Good win in Kilkenny by O Loughlin Gaels, making up for a few disappointments in recent finals.Great news in the banner as a Tony Kelly inspired Ballyea record their first county championship.Fantastic win for Slaughtneil in the Ulster hurling championship last week.

As usual, the tg4 coverage is a breath of fresh air.Thank god for good, honest club action in the inter-county off-season.
