The Limerick hurling final sunday week is an All parish meeting of Patrickswell and the rural Northern part of that parish Ballybrown. hurler32 (Limerick) - Posts: 867 - 13/10/2016 14:46:06 1925752 Link 1 |
Great achievment for both clubs. Its not easy competing with Na Piarsaigh and other big clubs like Kilmallock. It certainly is unusual but not altogether unheard of to have 2 clubs from the same rural or semi rural county parish in a county final. The one that immediately springs to mind is Clarecastle v Ballyea back around 2007. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 13/10/2016 15:54:19 1925790 Link 0 |
Sarsfields and Moorefield. both from Newbridge meet again in the Kildare football final on Sunday. I think it's the 6th or 7th time since the millennium. lillyboy (Kildare) - Posts: 429 - 13/10/2016 16:05:56 1925800 Link 0 |
Im sure theres lots of city and town teams from the same parish that have met. Id say its unusual for rural parishes though

Ballyea are in their second ever senior final next Sunday. In their previous final, they were beaten by Clarecastle, same parish. 1914 (Clare) - Posts: 92 - 13/10/2016 23:01:58 1925952 Link 0 |

In Dublin, Faughs and St. Judes are the two closest clubs to one another. They've never met in a Championship final but have played each other in Championship before. I'd hazard a guess that they are probably the two closest clubs in the country. Separated by a fence. Literally centimetres between the two clubs. happened in meath in 2006 or 7 in the intermediate final with st ultans and cortown reaching the final both from the bohermeen parish and in 1996 in the junior final with meath hill and drumconrath both from the drumconrath parish. Think thats all from around meath but i stand to be corrected srgt_slaughter (Meath) - Posts: 462 - 24/10/2016 10:03:51 1928564 Link 0 |
I believe there are two, if not 3 clubs in Belfast that doorstep each other, I think O'Donovan Rossa are one of them.

Senior teams from the same town in a senior county final is uncommon and of course Moortown/Sarsfield in Kildare is a good example. In Meath the last two championships were won by Navan O'Mahony's and the other Navan senior club Simonstown Gaels is now in the county final. Am I'm correct in saying that their is only one club in Portlaoise. m_the_d - I do know that in Belfast their are a lot of very strong clubs very close together close to the Falls Rd/ Casement Park area. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2340 - 24/10/2016 11:19:44 1928588 Link 0 |
Yea, Sarsfields, Rossa and St.Pauls all directly beside each other.

Not exactly the same, but St Michaels/Foilmore and Portmagee won the all ireland Intermediate and Junior football the same night in 09 in croke park. St Michaels (from Ballinskelligs) and Portmagee share the same parish. Superglue (Kerry) - Posts: 1283 - 24/10/2016 12:04:51 1928607 Link 0 |

How about Mullinaghta winning the Longford championship this year and their other half of the parish (Gowna) is in Cavan and they won several County championships in Cavan a few years back. Some hotbed of football !! And Gowna's next door neighbours Arva and Cornafaen won the Intermediate and Junior championships this year in Cavan. Just to point out that this thread doesn't apply to Sarsfields and Moorefield because the two clubs are based in two parishes. There are two clubs based in the Newbridge parish Sarsfields and Athgarvan. Moorefield are based in the Allen parish

Castlebar Mitchels played Breaffy twice in the last three seasons in the county senior football final. It would be three times only for Knockmore upsetting Breaffy in the Mayo semi-final on Sunday. A lot of players on the Mitchels, Breaffy and Ballintubber teams would have gone to the same school (St.Gerald's, Castlebar). Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 24/10/2016 18:21:49 1928699 Link 0 |
Isn't Clonlara also in the same parish as Ballyea?

A couple of years ago the 2 Mullingar town football teams, Shamrocks & St. Loman's, met in the Westmeath County Final. Their club grounds are almost beside each other on the Delvin road. In hurling, Turin, Cullion, Crookedwood & Clonkill are all in the same parish. The first 3 are intermediate clubs & would regularly have met in championship finals over the years. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 24/10/2016 23:23:47 1928773 Link 0 |
Knockmore's victory in the semi final last Sunday was one of the sweetest of them all. Brilliant defence. Well done to all Knockmore lads. A great team effort. GormlaighG (Mayo) - Posts: 77 - 24/10/2016 23:26:29 1928774 Link 1 |
