Davy Fitz appointed at Wexford!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Seems to be a done deal tonight with JJ Doyle the successful Wexford u21 manager added to the back room team. 3 years with review after 2.

I think it's a great move personally, delighted with it. Liam Dunne has done a phenomenal job but there's a sense that maybe he's taken them as far as he can but don't under estimate what's he's done.

Davy at Wexford, what do the neutrals think or even the not so much neutral?

Have literally just posted on another thread about this but yeah it's a great appointment for Wexford who will surely benefit over the next couple of years.

I have to say I think it's a poor move for Wexford. I hope I'm wrong but I think whaterever he might have had is long gone. More suffering awaits.

I also meant to say I thought it was a joke when I first heard the rumours...

Hope he succeeds with Wexford.I'd love to see Wexford hurling back at the top.How did Liam Dunne do a phenomenal job.? Wexford have won U21 Leinster titles and have quality coming through but they were going nowhere under Dunne.

Excellent appointment, be interesting to see how Davy gets on in Leinster . He will put a bit of fight into Wexford , he has a solid base with good under 21 teams over the past few years .

Has the potential to be a stroke of genius or a complete disaster but I don't know which one,hope it's the latter and my worries are proven wrong

Very brave call from our county board it really came from nowhere no rumblings of it down here the rumours only started last night and this morning

Time will tell if this works out. Liam Dunne had gone as far as he could with Wexford.

If nothing else Davy will raise the profile of the game in Wexford. There's raw talent to work with, and Davy could be the man. Leinster badly needs the wexfords / Offaly to start being competitive again.

Hmmmm........just like the late Paidi going to Westmeath before the ink was dry on his Kerry P45. If Davy wins a Leinster like Paidi did then maybe it will work. Not so sure though.

Makes the year interesting anyway. Would love to see Wexford get KK in a leinster semi final now down in Wexford park. It's possible that doubts could appear in KK minds if a game is going against them next year in a way that wouldn't have in other years. The league will tell a lot. Can't wait. 1b will again be as interesting as 1a.

I'm not a fan of his management style and wouldn't like him in charge of my county, but he's always entertaining and it's good for the game's profile if Davy is still involved at this level.

He has a group of good young players in Wexford but I would contend that he's leaving behind a better group of young players in Clare that have seriously underperformed since the 2013 All Ireland (this year's league win notwithstanding). It will be interesting to see what improvement he can get out of Wexford's young players over the next couple of years, or if his later struggles in Clare are a symptom of a wider problem in motivating young players to perform for him.

Brass tacks, I'd imagine Wexford cb will have set him the following targets over next 2 years:

- Promotion to 1A;
- Leinster final appearance;
- All Ireland semi final appearance;

If he reaches those targets and gets a third year, the targets will be a Leinster title and an All Ireland final appearance.

I'd like to think all the above is possible as it would be great for hurling to have a strong Wexford, with the crowds and atmosphere they can bring to matches, but it will be a tough task.

Think I agree with all of that.

I have been very vocal about Davy and his sideline antics, I don't want to be looking down at the nonsense which went on on the line when he was manager of Clare. I hope he is more vocal because it was his native county and hopefully he can temper it a bit on the back of his health scare, etc.

Unlike when Liam Dunne took over, Davy has a bunch of good players with a lot of potential, some of which remains completely untapped.

Overall I am not a fan of Davy but I will as always be there supporting the purple and gold. I will gladly be served a large dollop of humble pie if in 3 years we are sitting here slapping on the back over a job well done.

Excellent summation, as always.

That's the crux, is his handling of young players a Clare blip or something more permanent.

There should be a major year one new manager boost for Wexford at least.

A resurgent Wexford would be great for the game.

Interested to see how Davy & JJ Doyle get on. Also, reports that Donal Óg is staying on with the new Clare management.
