Stephen Cluxton

Says a lot about the man, that most comments written about him these days is when he makes errors. However he does so much right and yesterday I thought he was fantastic. His ball to Kevin Mc, e.g, was superb and incredible the game can now have a keeper who can set up a goal chance with quick thinking and uncanny accuracy.

Am not sure how much longer we will have SC as part of the team. Of all the great players I have had the pleasure of seeing over the years, he will be the one I miss most. A very hard act to follow.

Yeah his second half kick outs were incredibly accurate. That really hurt Mayo.

He was superb yesterday he's long kicks in the second half were brilliant.

You know in many ways the Mayo goalkeeping selection was down to Cluxton and how he has revaluationised the postion, if the change was due to concern over kick outs strategy, it's something Cluxton has brought to the game that now teams have to consider. Without Cluxton and his influence of the position, Clarke would start as keepers would just be keepers they traditionally have been.

First man to lift Sam as captain three times as captain. I was concerned when he stayed out on the pitch for the celebrations he may call it a day, but listening to him on the Saturday game last night, looks like he's going again.

Better than ever, should stay for a lash at the 3 in a row, but by god that's going to be an Everest, it's very hard to imagine they can keep going at this level, but the good thing is that younger players are starting to show form.
So stay for one more Stephen.

Excellent keeper in fairness and has single handedly changed the philosophy of what is needed to be a good keeper in the modern game.

One of the best of all time probably (Paudie O'Mahony of Kerry apart).

When he eventually retires we're f****d!

The best player I've ever seen play for Dublin.

Am hoping he can stay for more than the year. Maybe ease him up a little during the league campaign. Of course, it's up to the man himself. Appreciate the commitment it takes to keep playing at his very high level of standards.

I was sitting in the Upper Davin on Saturday evening, and had a great view of Cluxton's kickouts, and the excellent runs being made by Dublin players to make space. His accuracy over distance is astonishing - easily the best I've seen- and I say that as a neutral. His reading of the options is exceptional. His shot-stopping has slipped a bit, but that is now less important, given the way the game is being played.

He is a legend without a doubt. There are a couple of big players on that Dublin team who are nearing the end, but cluxton will be missed the most when he does decide to call it a day.

As a Kerryman I hope it's soon :)

Is there a keeper anywhere close to him.

He's amongst the best players of all time regardless of position.

I can't think of a player who's had a bigger impact on how the game is played.

Clark is a very good keeper but obviously SC is around a long time and has been top notch in 4 (or 5 with replay) AI finals and SFs. Clark needs a bit more time and a few more big performances in finals/SF finals to match what SC has achieved.

Folk may say he had a rocky patch in 2015 final but really only towards the end in appalling conditions where there was a lot of mistakes. Most cite 2011 as his best performance but I never seen a better keeper display than in 2013 V Mayo. Incredible kick outs. Came close to matching that with some of his kicks on Saturday,

his kickouts were better in 2013 than 2011 as you say. but he was badly at fault for Andy Moran's goal that day, and he kicked the winner in 2011 so that's why people will point to it as a better performance.

Game winning performance on Saturday - after 2 Games of being under pressure on a high press it didn't take him long to work out the solution pass it 60 yards to the player in space left by the mayo players pressing up - easier said than done though long passes in the second half were inch perfect each time

There has Never been a player that had revolutionised the way his position should be played to such an extent
