Well done to the Dubs today. Tough luck (again) on Mayo. It was a gripping, intriguing final.
It's over now, but soon the issue of Al-Stars will surface. It has often baffled me as to how certain decisions were arrived at over the years. But that's not my issue.
I'm asking, "why bother with positions anymore?" The game today is "any man everywhere, and every man anywhere."
Just nominate 45 as is done each year but don't confine it to 3 players per position. Just list 45 players, and out of them pick the best 15 without positioning them. And what'd be wrong for example by naming two goalkeepers in the 15 if the two figured among the most outstanding 15 for that given year. It's not as if these All-Star teams ever really have to line out as teams!

Maybe nominate 2 keepers, 8 defenders, 4 midfielders and 8 forwards. 22 players rewarded still keeps it exclusive but should manage to reward more players that do deserve recognition.
