Davy Fitz calls it a day

(Oldest Posts First)

Decided to resign I believe after asking senior players to sound out how the panel felt about whether it was time for new leadership. Probably best for all involved at this stage as I think they had lost their way at this point.
Who will take the reins now is the question.
Anyway good luck to him whatever he does.

Donal Moloney, John Minogue former U21 managers possibly in the running?

Donal Maloney or Anthony Daly

I've also heard to Liam Sheedy and Anthony Cunningham

It would be good to see Donal Maloney getting the nod. Maybe join up with Gerry O'Conner and re-establish the successful management which delivered so well at under 21 with most of these players

The King is dead.......long live the King.

Time for Clare to move onwards and hopefully upwards.

Wishing him all the best, the man lives and breathes Clare Hurling, owes them nothing, a great hurling man.

A passionate hurling man who knew when the time had come to go and credit to him for that. Many a Manager overstays their welcome.A talented squad of players in Clare and with the right manager, they'll have a lot of good days.

Right decision for all concerned.

Davy owes Clare nothing. He's won 3 All-Ireland titles as a player and manager. Clare have won four in total.

I didn't always like some of his behaviour on the sidelines or interviews after games.

He handled his departure with class.

I hope Clare can be up there with the best of them going forward.

Makings of a great championship next year.

Tipp the team to beat. A hurting Kilkenny. Waterford growing in confidence and experience. Galway as good as anyone. Limerick and Clare feeling the benefits of new management hopefully.

Would never write off Cork even though they appear to be at a low ebb. Dublin had a very good U21 side and hopefully they get back nearer to 2013 form.

Hard to see any team out of Offaly, Westmeath, Laois, Carlow, Antrim, Kerry or Meath moving to the next level next year but good work being done.

He certainly handle the departure very well i thought.

He owes Clare nothing and we owe him more than we can repay. In saying that this is the right call.

The freshness alone that a new manager will bring should be a catalyst to bring the best out of these players.

Clare need a manager who can develop two things:

1. Physicality; and
2. Ball winning ability

If we improve in this areas and hurl 15 on 15 we can be back at hurlings top table.

Will miss him, hope he gets another job. What he did in 2013 was a massive achievement - it will go down as good as Wexford in 96. He won it on "his own" style of hurling. As a Galway man though, I wouldnt like to see him take over Galway as his style wouldnt suit us. Would be great to come in on a coaching capacity though, for example Goalie / midfield coach... Also I hope Clare get someone good Dalo would be a good one. A great hurling man. Clare are always my no.2 team and I hope this team can win another Liam McCarthy.

Thank Davy for the memories and for leaving in such a dignified manner. It was time to go! the u21 management are highly regarded as replacements. Dalo would be my choice though. Either way Im looking forward to us getting back to playing some real hurling again.

For pure entertainment on the sideline and in interviews I will badly miss Davy.

One point; if you've a 32 man panel surely there's always going to be 17 or 15 lads not happy with the manager cause there subs?

sad to see Davey go - always entertaining, but I am sure Clare need a break and move on, the disappointment following their all-Ireland win has made things very difficult for everyone in Clare hurling. I am sure he will turn up at sideline soon enough.

Guess Wexford who reached a quarter final and beat Cork with half a team won't be involved next year then.

Agreed.apparently he asked senior players to sound out the rest of the panel and when it came back to him that they wanted a change, he left quietly and with dignity, which was the intelligent thing to do. No drama, no controversy, no foolish pride.
A man who truly loves the game of hurling and I still think hes a top manager and any county will do well to get him.
