Where does the money go ?

(Oldest Posts First)

This question has been asked a couple of thousand times and I am going to ask the same question again

What does the GAA do with millions of Euros that it rakes in each year ?

They trade it all in for loads of gold coins and swim around in it in a huge purpose built cavern underneath Croke Park á la Scrooge McDuck.

Either that or you know look at their accounts or something.

Where do you assume it goes? Back into clubs and schools and into facilities and stadium management and development etc

If my memory serves me right about 2/3 years ago it was said that the two wealthiest amateur organisations in the world was 1. The vatican. 2. The gaa, however for the obvious reasons that may now be reversed

That's absolute nonsense, if anyone said it, it was just you. Depending on how you define the Vatican, the Church is the most wealthy organisation on earth full stop. The GAA isn't even the richest amateur sporting body on earth. The NCAA in the US has unimaginable wealth, taking in over a billion dollars a year, and players can barely even accept sponsorship without being punished for violating its "amateurism".

When the press or someone says anything negative about the GAA everyone believes its true. There are few real journalists left in this country to be honest. All the papers talked about yesterday is the money the GAA will make from the reply. NOT ONE mentioned it gets ploughed back into the clubs etc.

None of them make any fuss about the fact no one has a clue what the FAI finances are or where they go, or in rubgy Munster owing 10M€ etc. As for the OCI lets leave that one alone.

Don't shoot the messenger, I didn't ask the question, in fact I would be quiet happy if the gaa was the second wealthiest, as for the fai, the oci or munster rugby well they don't interest me at all, as they sing off an entirely different hymn sheet.
As for the NCAA having unimaginable wealth, probably, but in the confines of the united states, so be it, but the wealth of the "Vatican" and the gaa stretches across every continent in the world, that too is left to the imagination, I wouldn't call that nonsense.

No way has it reversed.

Even if you ignore its worldwide reach, if you actually visit the Vatican itself you'll see enough wealth there in front of you to clear Ireland's debt a few times over - it is absolutely astonishing, and as someone who isn't religious it was still incredible to see the shear scale of what they have (and that's only the stuff they let the public see!!)

Don't know how much money goes back to clubs. For instance for the All Ireland Mayo clubs had to pay an extra 1000 euros to get an option to buy an extra 20 tickets (which had to be paid for) on top of their initial allocation. Clubs in Mayo are constantly being levied for this and that, so I'd be a bit weary of this talk of money going back to clubs. Mayo have enjoyed a relatively successful period and understand that the teams preparations have to be paid for but most clubs are on their last legs financially. Still waiting on the Sky sports cash to filter down to clubs ;-)
