James Horan

I see he's ruled himself out of the Roscommon job, sounds like he'll be back eventually though. He's ambitious bloke so I couldn't see him taking a job with a smaller county and given his work situation I don't think he'd travel too far. Perhaps he's waiting to get back involved in Mayo or would he consider the Galway job whenever that comes available? I know from listening to him he doesn't sound like he has too much time for Galway but perhaps that could change.

The man has a very demanding job with Coca Cola. He is probably getting well paid for Sky gig and other media work. I can't see him back in senior intercounty management any time soon. I would love to see him in charge of the Mayo minor's for a few years. It is a level we seem to be struggling at the past 2 years.

He said a couple of years ago that he wouldn't manage any county other than Mayo. Not sure if that's likely to change - would've thought Roscommon would be ideal if he was open to alternatives.

A relative of mine works with him and he seems fairly busy, especially given that his place of work recently announced a big expansion and his having a young family. It would be hard to see him managing any other Connacht county, but who knows?

I reckon James Horan is just taking a break from the Mayo job, he probably see himself taking over again in the next year or so. There is no other job he would be interested in taking.

If Mayo manage to win the All Ireland this year, that could see the current management stay in control for a number of years and throw a spanner in James plans.

I think a county board position like director of underage development would be good.
One point he was critical of when he took on the Mayo job was the lack of basic football skills, ie. players couldn't hand pass with the left hand which lead to poor decision making etc

I like the idea of getting him involved with underage development. He brought a very professional approach. As he quoted himself he wanted to take the bullsh** out of mayo football

The county thing in GAA really inhibits some fellas. Imagine the queue of counties to get Horan or Pat Gilroy if they made themselves available!
I always thought if Pat Gilroy was the Cork manager they would win Sam

You should be grateful that he didn't fancy the look of your lads then.

Harsh and untrue!

Although I understand the sentiment - this particular poster seems to think we have underachieved in reaching division 1 so he probably would have expected Horan to win Sam , take over your hurlers and win Liam before giving him any credit.

Nothing to do with many managers having to work for a living leaving them unable to travel to far?

Why would he be taking a break, this is mayos best team i've ever seen, whats he going to come back to when a few of their big players retire, he'll have to rebuild the whole team.

You don not have to win All-Irelands to be good footballer or indeed to know what makes you successful. It is much easier to play on a good team than on a very poor one.

Exactly. James Horan also scored a total of ten points from play in the three All-Ireland finals that he played in, so it's not like people can accuse him of bottling it on the big day (as they often do with Mayo footballers).

Paul Mannion doesn't have much confidence in himself !!!! Was he watching him v Donegal collecting the ball neat the side-line soloing through half the Donegal team and slipping it past the goalie to win the game.
