I know underage success is no great predictor of future success but Cork development hurling has had 2 great years. Last year won 7 out of 7 of the national finals between u14 and 17 and this year got to all 7 finals winning 4 and narrowly beaten in the other 3. Is this a sign of things to come and what have they done to turn the tide?

Yes and no.

We have plenty of players - we have more players than every other county so we should be winning these national titles. It is no surprise that we are winning. Our club sides are also very good through the ranks. We haven't a senior All-Ireland in a while but at intermediate, junior and junior B we are competitive each year. There are loads and loads of very skillful hurlers around here.

However, we also win the title of having the worst county board in the country bar none. They truly are the enemy within. There is a massive disconnect between the executive and the clubs and there is massive discontent at the moment. There is 'clear the air' special meeting on the 23rd of September. We'll see how that goes. Not many are holding their breath. Until the top table et al are gone from Cork GAA, we have no hope of an All-Ireland in either code. We are barely competitive.

obviously there is young talent in cork between u14 and u17 level in cork and rebel og really do a tremendous job ...however the major problem is when these players graduate from u17 level and make the jump to minor....The cork county board take full control.... then its like all this progress made with these youngfellas under the watch of rebel og and their coaches hits a big wall as the county board really are clueless...as soon as rebel og is complete for a particular player or squad the slate is wiped clean (rightly or wrongly) and whoever does make it to minor intercounty level they encounter a whole new set up with no continuation from the previous 3-4 years under rebel og..what needs to be done is give rebel og coaches a voice in the minor teams be it selectors, coaches or managers as these lads have nurished these young lads and would possess the most knowledge on young players throughout the whole county and from results as seen last year winning all 7 blitzes and this year reaching all the finals there is talent here but its not being developed or nourished properly given the previous results at minor level...this big meeting in late september is addressing this issue i think and we can only hope the county board dont balls it up.
