McFadden retirement - Tyrone response

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

In an era of massive rivalry and sometimes bordering on vicious - I have to take my hat off to Tyrone GAA for recognising McFaddens retirement - a man who's has caused so much pain to Tyrone and who's won everything in the game. When everyone is sticking the knives in the Red Hands let's recognise this recognition to a great Donegal player - Ulster football as tough as it is, is all the better for this type of recognition.

Totally agree. Classy player. Classy response.

Agreed, it was a really nice touch. Hopefully this can go some way to fostering a better relationship between the two countiesfrom now on. Last year after the match in Ballybofey things got very heated - which is a shame.

Agreed, things get heated in the midst of a rivalry but no excuse for some of the antics in recent years but it's individuals rather than groups of people.

Behind it all is the type of respect that the McFadden statement was born from.

Have the cousins of Cenel Conaill and Cenel Eoghain clans not been fighting for 1200 years?

Yeah well done Tyrone GAA.

It's nice from them and fair play .

McFadden was always a class footballer but most down south wouldn't admit it as he plays for a county in the north west .

Think mcfadden and Paul Flynn were the best forwards in the country between 2010 - 2013. Mcfadden's strike rate/accuracy was immense and completely key to how Donegal played.

Ah lads this is getting boring. A good player is a good player no matter which county he plays for. I wish he retired in 2011!

Colm was a player marked by inconsistency until McGuinness came along, flashes of brilliance but like the rest of the team, inconsistent.

How that changed from 2011 onwards. In 2011 and 2012 in particular, he was absolutely lethal. His point taking from distance under pressure and in limited space was superb. He was the player of the year for me in 2012 and was unmarkable. Well done Colm, you gave us some of the best days of our lives and you've achieved everything.

Thanks Tyrone
That is how it should be and myself-- when Donegal are gone and Tyrone still there alway support Tyrone.

Good to see that respect, and McFadden is certainly deserving of it as he was an excellent footballer and always played with honour on the field - all the memories he leaves are of great football moments and none of the nonsense that is now part of the modern game. Neil Gallagher is another great warrior who may leave the stage now, they both leave big boots to fill.

A bit unfair. Idiots from down south are like that for sure. There are idiots every where.

Colm McFadden was a great player indeed. He played a long time with other great players like Michael Hegarty, Brendan Devaney, Kevin Cassidy, Brian Roper. He got his reward unlike the others who had moved and didn't get to benefit from the organization that Jimmy McGuinness the brought.

Adrian Sweeney was another, a gifted footballer similar in style to McFadden who gave everything for Donegal but never even got a provincial title. I was told that he was still playing well in club football a couple of seasons ago.

Ah I suppose its years of being told we are just playing to a system and our team has zero natural footballers. It wears down a proper fan like myself but fair play Benny .
